About Make Them Smile Outreach
Make Them Smile Outreach is SHINE’s solidarity campaign. Volunteers and clinicians bring basic care, hygiene supplies and health education to underserved communities, orphanages and displaced families in the South West Region. We organise each campaign around a need identified with community leaders. For example, a school health day or a supply drive for a health centre.
Why we run Make Them Smile Outreach
Research and digital tools take time to change a health system. However, some needs cannot wait. Make Them Smile Outreach meets those needs directly. Moreover, it keeps our staff and fellows close to the communities whose problems their research is meant to solve.
Take part in Make Them Smile Outreach
Individuals can volunteer or donate supplies through the contact page. Companies can sponsor a campaign through the partnerships page. Finally, updates appear on sra.shineltd.org and under news.

A note on our standards
First, every study has a written protocol and ethical approval before data collection. Second, we report results to the partner as well as to a journal. Third, testimonials appear only with the person’s consent. As a result, partners can rely on what SHINE publishes, and readers can check every claim against its source.
