MedAccess pilot begins in the South West Region of Cameroon

The MedAccess pilot has begun in the South West Region of Cameroon. MedAccess is the digital health division of SHINE. Its platform lists more than 1,000 hospitals, laboratories and pharmacies. Patients use it to find a facility or a specialist, book an appointment or a home visit, and pay by mobile money, bank transfer or card.

What the MedAccess pilot offers

  • Facility mapping. Search hospitals, doctors, pharmacies and laboratories by location, specialty, name or test.
  • Appointments and home visits. In the User App, open a hospital or doctor profile and book a consultation or request a home visit.
  • Secure payment. Pay through MTN Mobile Money, Orange Money, bank transfer or card.
  • Provider tools. In the Doctor App, verified doctors publish availability, manage bookings and track earnings.
  • Pharmacies on call. A directory of pharmacies reachable out of hours.

The MedAccess pilot and the beta programme

The apps are in beta. We are releasing them to a small group of early users before a public store release. During the beta, you install the Android apps directly from medaccess.shineltd.org. An iOS version is planned. Meanwhile, the facility directory on the website is open to everyone.

Why the MedAccess pilot matters

Finding the right facility, knowing whether a specialist is available and paying for care are common barriers to treatment in Cameroon. The MedAccess pilot addresses all three in one place. Moreover, because MedAccess is part of SHINE, what the platform learns becomes a research question for Sintieh Research Academy. Aggregate statistics are available to researchers on request.

Join the MedAccess pilot

Facilities can list themselves free of charge, and doctors can join as providers. Health authorities, insurers and companies should write to partner@shineltd.org. Finally, read more on our MedAccess page.

A note on our standards

First, every study has a written protocol and ethical approval before data collection. Second, we report results to the partner as well as to a journal. Third, testimonials appear only with the person’s consent. As a result, partners can rely on what SHINE publishes, and readers can check every claim against its source.
